Justice Court Services Assistant
Salary Range 8 Step 1-8: $16.53 - $20.34/hr.
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Weekends and holidays off.
The Bullhead Justice Court includes Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley areas except that portion within the Oatman voting precinct, and the unincorporated area north of Bullhead City. The parts of Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley areas that are within the Oatman voting precinct are actually in the Lake Havasu Justice Court boundaries since January 1, 2025.

Responsibilities
Accept new filings and/or documents related to existing cases. Review content: determines if documents require immediate attention of judicial officer.
Collect fees and issue receipts.
Set up case in electronic and/or manual recording system.
Create new or update existing file folders.
Issue court process, updates, maintain, and record a variety of statistical and/or financial files and records.
Respond to inquiries at the counter, by mail and/or by phone, provide legal information without providing legal advice within the scope of designated authority. Determine if request/need is a priority; as required, contact judicial officer, advise of situation, perform follow-up work as instructed.
Balance cash drawer; reconcile receipts and disbursements; prepare daily deposit slip. As authorized, prepare checks, validate, and balance monthly and other financial reports, files, and records.
Process mail; provide to appropriate parties.
Prepare and distribute a variety of court documents; send out minute entries, forms, correspondence, and other items.
Pull cases for court as required or assigned; review file; determine completeness of file folder; update and prepare file for courtroom activities.
Assist judicial officer in a variety of tasks as assigned.
Perform data entry; update electronic and/or manual recording systems; update record of documents filed, action taken and related courtroom activities. Update paper file with latest in-court files as required. Return court file to storage area.
Work within the courtroom; set up court for operations; replenish supplies, forms and related materials; check operation of recording machine; load fresh tapes.
Call cases, witnesses and/or perform other duties as assigned by the judicial officer; operate recording equipment; update and maintain recording logs; assist witnesses, jurors and others as instructed by the judicial officer.
Provide subsequent court dates; issue court process, notices and other court documents; update electronic and/or manual recording systems.
Communicate and act in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
One (1) year of relevant, progressively responsible secretarial, legal secretarial, clerical, customer service or closely related work.
OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Special Job Requirements
May be required an affidavit and/or demonstrate proficiency to type 50 words per minute (WPM).
Must complete annual training as required by the Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET).
Applicable city, county, Arizona Supreme Court, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, case law and other relevant directives.
Mohave County and specific court-related policies and procedures.
Principles of bookkeeping and/or accounting.
Principles of file and records management.
Court processes, procedures and legal terminology.
Trends and practices in office, court and business operations.
Reading, understanding, interpreting and applying relevant city, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, case law and other relevant directives.
Assessing, evaluating, prioritizing and handling multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
Assessing, analyzing, identifying and recommending solutions to problems.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, other County employees, representatives of other governmental agencies, the bar association, victims, witnesses, litigants, jurors, news media, general public and others having business with the courts of Mohave County.
Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of commonly used and specialized software applications.
Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
