936-Streets & Sidewalks - 5426-936 General Paving Worker
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, to install, repair, clean, and finish concrete, asphalt, block walls, curbs, and painted surfaces throughout streets and cul-de-sacs; perform related paving, masonry, and maintenance work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mixes, grades, and form setting for concrete. Constructs and repairs block walls and related masonry. Operates concrete breaking equipment and road marking machinery. Drives trucks to clean and paint red zones, curbs, street markings, and parking spaces throughout streets and cul-de-sacs in community.
Withdraws materials, maintains records, and provides status updates.
Regular attendance required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.
Works effectively with co-workers, customers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listens to and objectively considers ideas and suggestions from others; keeps commitments; keeps others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addresses others by name, title or other respectful identifier; and respects the diversity of our workforce in actions, words and deeds.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Removes and replaces damaged street signs and installs new signs as needed.
Follows up on written resident complaints, corrects problems, and discusses with residents or refers to a supervisor with proper documentation.
Drives flatbed truck to transport masonry and paving materials.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Truck, flatbed truck, walk behind grinder, skid steer, backhoe, forklift, cement mixer, concrete saw, jackhammer, airless sprayer, compressor, water blaster, sand blaster, scaffolding, ladders, brushes, rollers, road marking machine, and hand tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to dust, fumes and normal outdoor elements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational development is sufficient to read, write, and follow oral/written instructions. Experience in concrete, asphalt, and building maintenance or equivalent combination of training:
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, and materials of concrete, asphalt, and maintenance work.
Ability to operate a variety of paving, painting, and masonry equipment.
Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English and communicate effectively.
Ability to adjust tools and parts to fit repair needs.
Skilled in the proper use and care of paving, painting, and masonry tools and equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Ability to pass respiratory pulmonary function test and annual medical examination.
Ability to pass qualitative and/or quantitative respirator fit test.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires standing for up to 6-hour periods; occasionally working at heights of up to 20 feet; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 20 lbs. with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 100 lbs.; frequent crouching, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing and reaching; occasional balancing, climbing, crawling, feeling and stooping.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Reading, reasoning, and customer contact.
