Responsibilities
Adhere to all standards and procedures established by Wellness and Recreation and the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) for the safe operation of all elements.
Learn and execute proper rigging techniques, including knots, belay systems, and technical rope work.
Co‑facilitate team‑building and leadership programs for university students, campus staff, and external groups.
Deliver safety orientations, harnessing procedures, and technical instructions for ascending and descending elements.
Welcome and greet users, providing information on facilities, programs, services, and the local area.
Assist in setting up and breaking down high‑course, low‑course, and team‑building activities for groups.
Teach and apply facilitation techniques, including introductory activities, debriefing exercises, and group dynamics management to achieve client learning outcomes.
Maintain equipment by cleaning, drying, inventorying, and storing gear to ensure serviceability and longevity.
Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation guidelines for the area.
Apply knowledge of emergency action plans and risk management.
Attend required training sessions and monthly staff meetings.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with co‑workers, participants, and guests.
Perform other related duties to support the overall functioning of the department.
Requirements
Current full‑time NC State student (enrolled in at least 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate credit hours).
First Aid and Adult CPR/AED certifications that are current or obtained before position commencement.
Minimum 20 hours per week commitment, with maximum 20 hours scheduled.
Work a minimum of four challenge courses and teambuilding programs per semester.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors, potentially in adverse weather, and at heights up to 30 feet for route‑setting, maintenance, and rescue procedures.
Physical capability for frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 40 lbs regularly.
Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
