Van Driver – Ravenna, OH
Overview
Education Alternatives is seeking van drivers for the Ravenna location. Van Drivers are paid hourly and are responsible for driving clients on an agency owned vehicle to and from our sites located throughout the greater Akron/Cleveland area and on field trips to various locations. This position is a part‑time hourly position, Monday through Friday. Ohio Department of Education Certification training will be provided by Education Alternatives.
Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 25 years old.
Must hold a valid Ohio driver's license.
Must have a good driving record, as determined by the Ohio Department of Education.
Must be able to pass a pre‑service physical and drug test.
Must not have a criminal background that would disqualify an applicant from working with children.
Will receive Ohio Department of Education Certification training.
Additional skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Adherence to safety practice; first aid; applying policies; operating agency vehicles; fire extinguisher; cell phone and standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Reading manuals; writing documents; presenting information; analyzing situations; basic vehicle maintenance; first aid; health standards and hazards; communication; using wheelchairs, tie‑downs, child safety seats, lifts, etc.
Attentive to detail; communicating with diverse groups; establishing effective relationships; exercising sound judgement; maintaining confidentiality; teamwork; working with constant distractions.
Responsibilities
Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergency situations to resolve or recommend resolution.
Work with clients with emotional and behavioral disabilities and intervene when necessary for safety.
Assist passengers with seating, restraints, special equipment, for safe loading/unloading in both normal and emergency situations.
Advise clients on appropriate behavior to reinforce guidelines and maintain safety.
Safely transport clients timely to/from residences and designated drop‑off points.
Inform day treatment personnel and parents of events, policies, and practices.
Respond to inquiries from clients, parents, and staff regarding transportation services.
Maintain assigned vehicles (cleaning, maintenance) to ensure safety, appearance, sanitation.
Fuel vehicle to keep it in safe operating condition.
Monitor passengers during transit to maintain order and safety.
Provide first aid as necessary for passengers.
Maintain ongoing communication with staff including teachers, building directors, fleet manager, director of transportation.
Prepare documentation such as daily log, incident reports, behavior rating, mileage.
Conduct safety checks on van before each departure and submit a daily pre‑trip inspection form.
Attend all agency trainings, including quarterly in‑service trainings.
Working Conditions The job requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. The job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, 10% standing, under temperature extremes and risk of injury or illness.
