Location: Boise, Idaho | Employment: Full‑time (40 hours) | Salary: $21 – $23 per hour ($43,680 – $47,840 annually)

Description The State Appellate Public Defender (SAPD) is a first‑rate public defense agency specializing in appeals and death penalty litigation for indigent clients. The SAPD’s Appellate Unit represents clients in non‑capital appeals, while the Capital Litigation Unit represents death‑sentenced clients. About Us At the SAPD we support one another, provide an inclusive environment, and offer excellent state benefits. We are looking for an Administrative Assistant to support our reception area. This public‑facing position requires extensive client contact and interactions with attorneys, court clerks, and other criminal‑justice stakeholders.

Scope of Work Responsibilities

Answer, screen, and route high‑volume telephone calls from clients, family members, the public, and criminal‑justice stakeholders.

Welcome visitors and manage front‑office duties.

Coordinate communication with the Idaho Supreme Court, Idaho Court of Appeals, and district courts across the state.

Process and distribute incoming mail.

Draft, proofread, and electronically file a variety of legal documents.

Proofread outgoing briefs for grammar, spelling, punctuation, organization, and clarity.

Process incoming legal filings and calendar related deadlines.

Maintain an accurate administrative office calendar.

Minimum Qualifications Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and standard office equipment (fax, copy machine, multi‑phone system). Associate’s degree preferred but not required. Law‑office experience, knowledge of legal terminology, and criminal law procedure strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, exercise patience, and maintain client confidentiality. Detail‑oriented, able to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines while working independently. Strong proofreading skills. Fluency in Spanish and translation ability preferred.
