Job Description The Remote Kitchen Helper/Housekeeper position maintains sanitation standards and performs cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, and service areas at remote camp locations. This role keeps remote camp and industrial facilities, office facilities, living areas, and similar spaces clean and orderly.

Responsibilities

Assists cooks and others as needed and coordinates activities within a food service area

Prepare food and cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.

Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.

Stocks various food service areas with products and materials.

Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and places them in assigned storage areas.

Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.

Cleans, sweeps, wipes down, and vacuums general dining, kitchen, or storage areas, spike rooms, equipment, and floors.

Vacuums, mops, and restocks hallways, stairways, offices, laundry rooms, clinics, living areas, off‑site areas, common areas, restrooms and similar spaces.

Scrubs, wipes, extracts, waxes, and buffs all types of floors.

Dusts high and low areas.

Uses appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks.

Performs light facility maintenance as needed.

Assists with large cleaning projects and laundry duties.

Removes garbage from assigned areas.

Sets up, breaks down, and cleans tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, etc.

May occasionally prepare food or cook.

May combine with other position duties.

Notifies supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not met.

Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

Has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

At least one year of experience in a commercial kitchen or documented vocational training demonstrating knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment, restaurant food preparation, and commercial cleaning processes.

At least one year of commercial housekeeping experience.

Must have or obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.

Must pass all pre‑employment contract requirements (e.g., drug test, physical assessment, hearing test); applicants not near a testing facility are responsible for travel costs.

Cooperates and works as part of a team.

Makes decisions with little to no supervision.

Stands on feet for 12 hours per shift.

Lives in dormitory‑style settings and meets cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.

Spoke, understands, reads, and writes English.

Adheres to all safety guidelines and regulations set by the company and client.

Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage Area Candidates residing in Alaska or the Lower 48 for any contract: For the purposes of pre‑employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (except for drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate’s residence). Employee pays travel expenses and accommodations for pre‑employment tasks in Anchorage, AK, including safety training, required testing such as physical, DOT medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and other contract requirements.

Candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska contract: pre‑employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s residence unless no service providers are available.

Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage, AK for scheduled trips paid by the company.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather: Indoor/Outdoor; frequently Arctic conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to Loud.

Environment: Industrial kitchen at a remote camp.

Must stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch continuously.

Must travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.

Physical Requirements

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle – 2 lifts

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist – 2 lifts

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders – 2 lifts

Lift 30 lbs. from floor to crown – 2 lifts

Carry 20 lbs. with two hands for 20 feet

Push horizontally with peak force 50 ft‑lbs with two hands.

Stoop & twist – alternate cross‑over toe touches, 5 each side.

Squat – functional squat x 5, self‑paced.

Kneel – kneel one knee, stand, alternate kneeling, 5 each knee.

Stairs – climb up and down 10 steps x 4 (40 steps) continuously.

Stairs & carry – climb 10 steps x 2 (20 steps) while carrying 30 lbs., using railing.

30‑second rest after climbing 10 steps while carrying.
