Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

The position is security sensitive; a criminal background check is required. Purpose

Provide journey level work associated with fire sprinkler systems, including testing, repair, inspection, maintenance, and operation. Responsibilities

Perform journey‑level work in testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems to meet NFPA codes using hand tools and monitoring devices. Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fire sprinkler systems. Provide information to management for new projects and deferred maintenance planning. Review designs and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and university construction standards. Maintain inventory control and inspect test equipment for safe operation. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Coordinate work with outside contractors. Work from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with safety procedures. Perform other job‑related functions as assigned, including participation in the On‑Call program. Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in journey level installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of electronic equipment, systems, and components. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in a technical field. Knowledge of the Fire Water Distribution Loop. More than two years of the described experience. Experience at the University of Texas or a university setting. Demonstrated teamwork, customer service orientation, computer skills. NICET Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water‑Based Systems and/or Water Based Systems Layout. Master Plumber License. AutoCAD experience. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program. Salary Range

$40,047 + depending on qualifications. Working Conditions

Position and duties are essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Required to operate electronic devices such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer for time reporting and work management. May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels. May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator. May drive University vehicles; must maintain acceptable driver rating as per policy. Work Shift

40 hours a week, five 8‑hour days, or possibly four 10‑hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible. Required Materials
