The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.**Description of Work**The North Carolina Forest Service is designated as an emergency response Division and is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina.
The District Ranger-Forest Management (DR-FM) is an administrative position that oversees the Ranger Training Program, I&E materials and scheduling, district safety program, bridge-mat loan program, and purchasing throughout the district. The DR-FM provides technical expertise in GIS and GPS, forest management, and prescribe fire support. The DR-FM conducts needed workplace safety training for the district, serves as the district safety representative, and assists with statewide Ranger Training schools. Will serve as a district operations officer and may serve as initial attack IC on district fire team as needed.
The DR-FM assists new ACRs with Ranger Training and advises Asst. District Forester of inconsistencies or issues. The DR-FM maintains FM contractors lists, makes updates (as needed), audits the list yearly for company contacts and services offered. The DR-FM coordinates the district Forestation program; tracks prescribed burns and other FM services billing.
The DR provides direction & oversight of cooperative programs such as FEPP/GSA; responsible for requisitioning supplies & equipment following all state guidelines as well as being the uniform coordinator and maintaining a district uniform cache; and responsible for state & federal inventory systems.
This position requires the successful completion of Ranger Training to maintain employment.

Telephone required. Necessary Special Qualification: Possession of a valid driver's license required within 90 days of hire.
This position has wildland firefighter duties such as detection, suppression and prevention to include times of on-call outside normal 8-5 working hours for IA response. Responds to wildfires both in-state and out-of-state. Responds to other natural and human caused emergencies and disasters. May lead or assist in basic criminal law enforcement investigations related to wildfires.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Recruitment Range-$39,671-$69,426* Skilled in wildland fire suppression strategy and tactics.* Experience in wildland firefighter instructing or Forest Management instructing.* Knowledge of forest management services, such as planting, site-prep, harvesting, TSI* Ability to develop good working relationships, be self-motivated and service oriented.* Knowledge of GIS programs and GPS equipment and use.Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
