Job Summary Providing quality meals to students, faculty, staff and visitors in a timely manner with an emphasis on customer service. Employees will use various knives, kitchen equipment, and a variety of food preparation techniques to prepare a range of menu items, including sandwiches, wraps, tuna cups, fruit cups, yogurt parfaits, pizzas, subs and more. Work may take place in a refrigerated and temperature-controlled environment. Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
Job Assignments
Accurately prepare customer orders quickly and efficiently.
Interact with guests and respond to their requests in a professional manner.
Handle high‑volume prep work, including using knife skills to prepare recipes and complete prep work.
Be familiar with or receive training on prep equipment such as the robo coupe, meat slicer, and mandolin.
Maintain production and usage records.
Manage food storage and rotation.
Operate and maintain equipment.
Present all food in an attractive and appealing manner.
Keep a neat, clean, and sanitized work area.
Work consistently and productively during the entire shift.
Set up, break down, and restock the station.
Cross‑train in other areas and duties as needed.
Assist with training student employees.
Perform general cleaning, other food service duties, and projects as requested by management.
Job Requirements
Minimum 1 year of professional, high‑volume food preparation experience.
Must have knife handling skills and training, math skills, and multitasking skills.
Ability to follow standardized recipes and measure ingredients accurately and quickly.
Experience in organizing and maintaining kitchen workstations.
Exceptional communication and customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, team environment.
Must be able to prioritize work and execute tasks with speed, efficiency, and accuracy in a high‑volume environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to fulfill customer orders.
Excellent customer service skills.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English with accurate math skills.
Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and hygiene.
Have reliable transportation and good attendance.
Ability to work in a refrigerated, temperature‑controlled environment for the entire shift.
Work Environment
The work environment can be loud and busy. There is exposure to kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces, liquids, sharp knives, and slippery surfaces.
The position operates in a kitchen environment where the employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire, noise, and extreme temperatures in coolers and freezers.
Work may take place in a refrigerated and temperature‑controlled environment.
Physical and Mental Demands
The position is very active, and the employee must be able to stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
Must use hands to finger, manipulate fingers, reach with hands and arms, to stir, measure, pour, cut, chop, dice, and decorate.
Requires taste, smell, touch, and both close and distance vision for inspection and quality control.
The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs.
