Job Description
Tile Setter installs tiles and stone on various surfaces, including floors, walls, and ceilings, using specialized tools and techniques to ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.
Responsibilities
Installation: Install tiles and stone (ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, etc.) on floors, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and smoothing them to ensure proper tile adhesion.
Measuring and Cutting: Accurately measure and cut tiles to fit specific spaces, including around obstacles and into odd shapes.
Adhesive Application: Apply mortar, mastic, or other adhesives to the surface and tiles to ensure a secure bond.
Tile Setting: Position and press tiles into place, ensuring proper alignment, spacing, and even grout lines.
Grouting and Sealing: Apply grout to fill the spaces between tiles and seal the grout to prevent staining and water damage.
Cleaning and Finishing: Clean the tiled surfaces and ensure a professional, finished look.
Troubleshooting and Repair: Identify and address any issues or damage to tiles or grout.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints to determine material requirements and installation procedures.
Material Handling: Handle and store a variety of tile and stone materials, as well as tools and equipment.
Skills And Qualifications
Physical Stamina: Tile setting requires physical strength and endurance to lift heavy materials, kneel for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy are essential for achieving a professional-looking finish.
Problem-Solving Skills: Tile setters must be able to adapt to different situations and find solutions to unexpected problems.
Basic Math Skills: Tile setters need to be able to measure, calculate, and estimate materials.
Knowledge of Materials: Familiarity with different types of tiles, stone, adhesives, and grout is essential.
Tool Proficiency: Experience using a variety of tile-setting tools, such as wet saws, tile scribes, trowels, and grout floats.
Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to work safely on construction sites.
Requirements
Must have a High School Diploma or GED
Must be 18 Years of Age
Valid Driver’s License
Reliable Transportation
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
