Job Description Continental Tide is searching for skilled Marine Electricians II for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing ship repairs, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. Only local candidates will be considered.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment.
Set up, test, and correct operational and experimental electrical machinery and circuitry in accordance with guidelines and engineering specifications.
Perform component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose problems and recommend cost‑effective repair solutions.
Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments.
Provide on‑site field service for system groomings, checkouts, minor repairs, and configuration validation.
Inspect and test electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions using visual inspections and testing devices.
Assemble multi‑pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
Apply industry standard concepts, practices, and procedures in line with NAVSEA standard items.
Repair and replace cables and connectors.
Participate in the installation and maintenance of combat systems, PLCs, AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
Required Experience
Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
Repair and replace cables and connectors.
Work in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
Troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic equipment and cables.
Familiarity with NAVSEA and standard electrical repair, fabrication, and installation practices.
Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance and DBIDS, and be able to access local shipyards and US Navy bases.
Possess basic hand tools.
Ability to walk, stand for long periods, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat, and twist.
Lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs). Weight requirements may vary by job.
Work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, in industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
Perform duties involving high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over vessel sides.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods and may require wearing a respirator.
Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Cableway Certified.
Certified in “Multi‑Pin” connectors IAW MIL‑STD‑20035A (SA).
Certified in Fiber Optic: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC.
Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), fiber optics, and integrated network systems.
Minimum 7 years as a marine electrician with at least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities.
Experience maintaining budgets and material for electrical and electro‑mechanical systems on ferries, dredges, and military vessels.
Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item requirements and wire‑way inspections.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Ability to identify issues and recommend solutions to shop superintendents.
Experience with A.C. and D.C. system overhaul, power generation, distribution, and users.
Laying out wire ways, pulling and splicing wires, circuit labeling.
Installation and hookup of lighting fixtures, circuit testing, and troubleshooting.
Writing simple purchase requisitions.
Instructing helpers, apprentices, or less‑skilled electricians.
Recording motor and generator thrust, clearance, and alignment measurements.
Identifying materials and parts needed for job performance.
Selecting substitute electrical components.
Forecasting problems, writing reports, and proposing solutions.
