Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team and keep our fleet of heavy construction equipment and trucks running at peak performance. This role is critical to supporting underground utility and civil construction projects across the Charleston area.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on professional with strong diagnostic and repair skills across diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrains. You’ll work on a variety of equipment including dozers, excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, and service trucks.

This is a full‑time, year‑round opportunity with a growing contractor that values safety, quality, and long‑term career development.

Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and DOT inspections on fleet vehicles.

Troubleshoot and repair issues with hydraulics, brakes, steering, suspension, and powertrain components.

Maintain accurate service records and documentation of all work performed.

Field & Shop Support

Respond to equipment breakdowns on job sites to minimize downtime.

Safely operate service trucks and tools when performing field repairs.

Work closely with operators, foremen, and the Fleet Manager to prioritize maintenance needs.

Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard environment.

Safety & Compliance

Adhere to company and OSHA safety standards at all times.

Use proper PPE and remain alert to jobsite hazards.

Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or near misses promptly.

Requirements Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or technical school preferred.

Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience (construction/heavy equipment background strongly preferred).

Solid knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.

Certifications & Licenses

Valid driver’s license with clean MVR (CDL preferred but not required).

ASE or OEM certifications (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, etc.) are a plus.

OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred (training available if needed).

Skills & Attributes

Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.

Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools.

Dependable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently or in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, bend, climb, and work in varying weather conditions.

Comfortable standing or working in awkward positions for extended periods.

Willingness to work outdoors and on active construction sites.
