Job Summary The Diesel Field Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles on‑site and within garage locations. This position supports construction teams and works with personnel across the department.
Responsibilities
Inspect and repair company equipment, such as pickup trucks, line trucks, trailers, mini excavators, backhoes, compressors, and generators, in a safe, timely, and cost‑effective manner in the field and garage.
Perform road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs and service.
Place orders for required parts, materials and supplies, as required.
Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Monitor prioritized projects, activities, and assignments to ensure completion of deadlines.
Maintain tools, supplies, and workstations in a clean, safe and presentable manner.
Provide support and training for Mechanics on the team.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license.
3 years of mechanic experience.
Knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics.
Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures.
Ability to do tune‑ups, brake jobs (hydraulic), and basic wiring.
Basic diesel and drivetrain experience.
Ability to use cutting torch and basic welding skills.
Knowledge of minor heavy equipment repairs.
Preferred
4 or more years of experience.
DOT Certified Flagger.
CDL Class A license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and twisting. Work may be performed in extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, or wind. The role requires clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
