Legal Secretary – Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Santa Ana, CA Under the general supervision of the Legal Support Supervisor I, the Legal Secretary will effectively work for two to four attorneys and will perform the following duties for the DOSH Legal Unit attorneys and/or Bureau of Investigations (BOI) special investigators in all fora including administrative, state and federal trial courts, and state and federal courts of appeal at all levels.

Assist Legal Unit and BOI staff in a variety of substantive areas, including proceedings before the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board (OSHAB).

Assist in matters before the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board and the Office of Administrative Law.

Assist in proceedings in state and federal courts at all levels, including any other litigation that may arise involving the Division.

Assist with internal Division, Departmental, or Agency matters.

Prepare and manage documentation, including drafting email communications, and other relevant paperwork.

Operate computers, scanners, copiers, telephones, faxes, and shredders as required for processing work.

Walk for extended periods of time to assist team members and professional staff.

Be able to move and transport up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions The position is full‑time and headquartered at the Cal/OSHA District Office, 2 MacArthur Place, Suite 720, Santa Ana, California. The office is a high‑rise building with artificial and natural lighting, and the incumbent works in a typical office setting with an interior workstation in a smoke‑free environment. Telework is allowed, and the position may require in‑state travel locally in Southern California for meetings and training as needed. Staff are expected to return to the office four days per week starting July 1, 2026.

Special Requirements

Perform sustained typing of at least 45 words per minute.

A typing certification is required for State civil service clerical positions. Refer to the Class Specification for specific details.

Individuals currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, or are in the process of obtaining list eligibility.

Individuals with SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach a letter if available).

Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered.
