As a Legal Administrative Paralegal, you will provide comprehensive support for our Real Estate, Construction & Development Service Line performing substantive legal tasks and administrative duties.
In this role, you will work on all aspects of real estate closings such as reviewing contracts, reviewing and preparing title insurance commitments/policies, updating title and recording documents, disbursing files, and communicating with all parties to the transaction. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of real estate administrative experience and demonstrate a willingness to learn and assist in overall production of closing. This position is primarily administrative but will occasionally bill time to client matters.
Where You’ll Work The Legal Administrative Paralegal is a hourly non-exempt position and will work full-time from our Charleston, South Carolina office.
What You’ll Do
Draft and review real estate documents including but not limited to purchase and sale agreements, deeds, affidavits, notes, mortgages, UCC financing statements, easements, leases, loans, corporate filings and resolutions, and other related real estate documents
Facilitate, track, and satisfy due diligence requirements for seller and purchaser
Consult with title companies, survey firms, property inspectors and environmental consultants
Contact various governmental offices and conduct public record searches to obtain real estate ownership, taxes and zoning information
Review and summarize title commitments, title policies, lien search reports, inspection reports, surveys and phase one environmental reports
Facilitate details of closing transactions with various parties
Coordinate, attend and assist with closings, including preparing closing statements and binders
Coordinate recording and filing documents in state and local offices
Keep clients, agents, and lenders informed of status of transaction(s)
Process executed closing documents adhering to lender deadlines
Disburse funds via wire transmittals or checks, and reconcile invoices and outstanding funds
Request and review post-closing title updates
Process and record mortgage satisfactions
What We’re Looking For
Minimum 3+ years of experience with real estate law required
High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in related field of study preferred.
Paralegal Certification from an ABA-approved program preferred.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and Qualia
Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks in a demanding environment.
Excellent “people” skills and ability to identify solutions when faced with a problem.
Ability to maintain composure under pressure and exemplify a high level of patience.
