Float Phlebotomist - Maryland
As a Float Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and updating patient information. You will collect and store specimens according to established procedures while providing clear and courteous explanations to patients regarding the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections. This role requires proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles, understanding physicians' orders, and ensuring accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly to patients. Use straight and butterfly needles for specimen collection. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label and package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity. Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results. Understand and execute all physician orders accurately. Essential Skills
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. 2-4 years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency in troubleshooting and workflow recommendations. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Work Environment
The work environment is a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting where you will be required to handle specimens, use various collection techniques, and adhere to strict protocols to ensure the integrity of specimens. Regular training and compliance with safety regulations are mandatory. Professional attire is expected in accordance with the healthcare setting. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Linthicum Heights, MD. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
