Outdoor Recreation Facility Recreation Assistant

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Facility on Offutt AFB. Responsibilities include planning, directing, and managing various outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, boating, hiking, bicycling, trips/outings, nature walks, and aquatic outings. An expert in outdoor programs and Nebraska local area resources for outdoor activities. Work independently and with guidance as needed for new or complex programs. Able to solve problems in remote locations with little or no support from the home base. Additionally, be able to implement higher-level directives, and formulate procedures and programs to ensure high standards of outdoor recreation programs. Provide input to the budget process and ensure that programs meet financial goals. All scheduled programs are conducted within the limitations of the geographic area, staff, equipment, and funds availability. Responsible for coordinating with off-base agencies, participants, volunteers, and paid staff to ensure the best possible experience for the customers. Provide training and adequate staff for scheduled activities through volunteers, paid staff, and contracted instructors. Prepare required paperwork to contract instructors, coordinate special events, and maintain historical files of programs. Safety is paramount and ensure all program staff is current in CPR and First Aid certifications. Arrange for supplies, transportation, and services needed to conduct scheduled programs and trips. Ensure all vehicles are properly maintained and that programming equipment and supplies are ordered and received before the event date. Ensures vehicles are properly serviced no less than two days prior to each trip. Maintain an accurate inventory of all program equipment and develop an annual program calendar that meets Air Force Standards. Actively publicize programs using traditional and non-traditional strategies, prepare presentations, and give briefings about the Outdoor Adventure Program for functions, meetings, and Commander's Calls on base. Develop workshops, seminars, education classes, training, and demonstrations that precede outdoor adventure trips. Qualifications: Understand and apply recreation programming principles and techniques. Have practical outdoor experience and knowledge of recreational equipment and outdoor field rules and procedures. Possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with the public. Basic computer literacy is required. Experience in cash handling and clerical work is necessary. Ability to lift frequently up to 60 lbs. and occasionally up to 75 lbs. Must pass a basic physical examination. Must be willing and able to work unusual hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as travel and stay overnight both in and out of the state. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required.
