Job Overview Independent professional counseling providing vocational rehabilitation services to eligible disabled individuals and technical assistance to other counselors.
Responsibilities
Provide independent professional vocational rehabilitation counseling to individuals with a diversity of disabilities.
Assess medical, psychological, and vocational information to determine eligibility for services.
Develop and implement Individual Plans for Employment with clients.
Authorize, coordinate, and negotiate services to achieve employment outcomes.
Devise job placement opportunities and develop employer contacts.
Conduct in-depth interviews assessing eligibility and feasibility of vocational goals.
Manage resources and ensure financial accountability per state and federal regulations.
Collaborate with community partners and internal customers for resource utilization.
Provide technical assistance and specialized training to internal customers.
Perform additional duties as required and maintain attendance.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a field reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation (e.g., vocational rehabilitation counseling, psychology, disability studies, business administration, human resources, special education, supported employment, customized employment, economics, or related field). Master’s or Doctoral degree is preferred but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of paid or unpaid experience in roles such as direct work with individuals with disabilities, human resources, recruitment, supervision, training, or related activities. Experience as an employer, small business owner/operator, self‑employment, or in competitive integrated employment environments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling theories and practices.
Knowledge of interviewing techniques, medical and psychological aspects of disability groups, and effective communication principles.
Knowledge of employment resources and vocational rehabilitation resources.
Knowledge of data organization and analysis, fiscal tracking, and state/federal financial requirements.
Ability to compile, organize, analyze medical, vocational, and psychological data.
Ability to administer tests and interpret results.
Ability to counsel and guide career planning and develop vocational programs.
Effective communication skills and ability to establish effective working relationships.
