Diesel Technician/Mechanic II – Penske Truck Leasing
Join Penske Truck Leasing’s fleet of skilled technicians and help keep the newest, best‑maintained fleet of vehicles safely on the road. As a Technician II, you’ll work independently, perform major and minor repairs, conduct diagnostic road tests, and mentor newer technicians while growing your own skill set.
Location: 2575 N Frontage Rd, Billings, MT 59101
Main Responsibilities
Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with minimal supervision and in a timely manner
Repair and troubleshoot components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, fuel system components, and more
Keep your work area clean and safe
Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics
Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training program
Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
3+ years of practical vehicle maintenance experience
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred); vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
Specialized training in diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials); ASE certification and 608/609 certifications preferred
Proficient with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools
Valid driver’s license required
Strong problem‑solving, customer service, and teamwork skills
Willingness to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions and perform physical tasks (lifting up to 100 lbs)
Basic computer skills
Compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety & maintenance policies; ability to maintain a DOT driver qualification file
Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential
Willingness to travel within the district, complete background and drug screening, and meet required safety standards

Physical Requirements
Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods
Use hands routinely to grasp, reach, touch, and manipulate tools and controls
Work safely at heights with ladders and platforms
Operate safely in all weather conditions
Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs routinely and up to 100 lbs occasionally
Pay:
$27.75 per hour
Hours:
Wednesday — Saturday, 6 am to 4:30 pm
Shift Differentials:
Second shift start after 11 am: $3.00 per hour differential
Third shift start after 9 pm: $4.00 per hour differential
