Diesel Mechanic – Kenan Advantage Group
Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) is North America’s largest tank truck transporter and logistics provider, delivering energy commodities, specialty products, merchant gases and food products across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Diesel Mechanic role is essential to maintaining our fleet of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles, including tank trailers.
Position Summary This position requires safely and accurately performing general property and vehicle maintenance & repair duties in and around shop operations in a fast‑paced environment. Knowledge of basic preventative maintenance and repair techniques for Class 5 through Class 8 vehicles, as well as tank trailer inspection and maintenance under FMCSA regulations, is required.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Fleet Mechanic Apprentices receive hands‑on training in preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs of Class 5 through Class 8 vehicles and tank trailers.
Fleet Mechanic Levels I & II learn and become proficient using the company’s maintenance software to create and complete work orders, maintain records, and train/assist other technicians on preventive and repair tasks for trucks, tractors, and trailers.
Fleet Mechanic Level III builds on previous duties, becomes qualified with necessary certifications to perform new‑technology evaluations, diagnostics, and repairs.
HM183 Certified Inspectors maintain compliance with FMCSR regulations, sign test forms, and have at least three years of tank‑testing experience.
Regularly perform lifting up to 50 pounds (greater loads require assistance).
Qualifications
Valid Driver’s License.
1–5 years of heavy‑duty vehicle maintenance/repair experience (tech level determined by years of experience and certifications).
Current Air Brake Certification (FMSCR 396.25) or at least 1 year of verifiable experience with potential to obtain certification through KAG.
EPA 609 certification (Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Repair) or ability to obtain through KAG.
For HM183 positions: Verifiable proof of 3‑year tank testing, commercial motor vehicle inspector experience, or ability to obtain DOT certification through KAG.
Physical Requirements Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently; anything over 50 pounds is lifted with assistance.
