Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self‑propelled machinery to plow, harrow, fertilize soil, plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Manually plant, cultivate, harvest fruits. Crops include organic berries, melons, vegetables such as greens, brassicas, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning crops; setting up, operating, monitoring and maintaining irrigation/fertigation systems; sorting, packing, bunching, washing vegetables and berries; loading trucks for CSA and markets; repairing and maintaining farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment; applying fertilizers to crops; informing farmers or farm managers of crop progress; monitoring fields and high tunnels for plant infestations and applying treatments appropriate for organic use; clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches; recording information about crops such as yields or costs. Operation of tractors and machinery is done solely on farm property and farm roads and is incidental to agricultural operation. Workers must comprehend simple oral and written instructions due to health and safety concerns related to pesticide application and equipment operation. Employees may be subject to random drug tests at employer expense after hire. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
Requirements
Minimum 2 months experience in performing tasks described in this order.
Will undergo random drug test at employer expense post‑hire.
Physically able to lift up to 80 pounds.
Driver requirements.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, repetitive movements, extensive pushing and pulling, extensive walking.
Frequent stooping/bending over.
