Field Investigator California Department of Industrial Relations invites applications for the Field Investigator position. The role is part of the Labor Commissioner’s Office (LCO), within the Bureau of Enforcement Program (BOFE), the Labor Employment Task Force (LETF), and the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) Unit. The incumbent investigates and enforces state labor laws, including workers’ compensation insurance coverage, child labor, cash pay, unlicensed contractors, Industrial Welfare Commission (IWC) orders, and group claims involving minimum wage and overtime.

Applicants must have taken and passed the current Deputy Labor Commissioner I (DLC I) exam (issued December 18, 2025) or the Labor Compliance Representative (LCR) exam (issued December 15, 2025). Eligibility requires being on an employment list, having transfer or reinstatement eligibility.

Working Conditions This position is located at 770 E. Shaw Ste. 222, Fresno, CA 93710. Duties are performed in both office and field settings; travel for field operations and trainings is required. The incumbent receives a state vehicle, laptop, printer, cellular phone, and other equipment. Field work may involve exposure to dirt, odors, noise, fumes, uneven surfaces, stairs, high‑rise buildings, extreme weather, and fast‑moving equipment.

A willingness to travel and work irregular hours.
