Overview
We are seeking an
Aviation Technical Writer 2
onsite full- time in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user guides and installation and maintenance manuals for our Aviation business.
Essential Functions
Research and collect data to write pilots’ guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents
Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools
Communicate with the Design Engineers regarding product specifications/development
Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions and features of specific aviation products
Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team
Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures
Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process
Edit copy for content organization, style, voice, audience and format consistency
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or another related technical field
AND
a minimum of 2 years of technical writing experience
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Must possess experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics
Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures
Proficient in desktop publishing tools relevant to Garmin’s business needs
Basic understanding S1000D documentation standards
Must be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and is able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
Desired Qualifications
Avionics and/or electronics/technical background
Pilot Certificate or A& P Certificate
Instrument Rating
IA Certificate
Experience and/or knowledge in electronics relevant to the essential functions of this job description
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Experience (InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator) & AutoCAD
Experience and/or education in computer graphics creation relevant to Garmin’s business needs
