The purpose of the Utilities Mechanic is to maintain, diagnose, repair, rebuild, adjust, perform preventive maintenance, and install equipment within and around the facility to keep production operational and avoid loss of production. This individual will perform the duties of a Utilities Mechanic, assist other maintenance personnel on his/her shift, and be responsible for all necessary paperwork and documentation related to the job.

Core Responsibilities

Respond to general mechanical requests.

Perform basic HVAC repairs.

Provide support for ammonia refrigeration systems.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of drive components.

Inspect machinery bearings.

Repair and operate various pump configurations.

Execute basic pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting.

Install and replace bearing and shaft seals.

Adhere to all safety requirements, including PPE, preventive and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lock‑out/Tag‑out procedures, and Process Safety Management items.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and 1+ year of related experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing; OR 4 years of direct experience in such environments.

Strong reading, math, writing, and analytical skills.

Availability to work weekends as needed.

Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.

Must pass a pulmonary function test.

Capable of meeting the physical requirements of a HAZMAT Technician.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Plant environment includes wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Noise levels are usually moderate but can be loud in the production area.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using buddy systems or lifting devices.

Requires close, distance, and adjusting focus vision.

Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; also talk or hear.
