The position enforces the provisions of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act by investigating and conciliating complaints of discrimination primarily in employment and public accommodations alleged to have occurred because of a protected class such as race, color, sex, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, age, familial status, disability, and/or retaliation. As a Human Relations Representative 1, you will investigate and conciliate complaints of alleged discrimination, assess jurisdiction, draft and investigate complaints, and facilitate settlement by communicating settlement proposals. Work details and expectations are described below.
Responsibilities
Investigate and conciliate complaints of discrimination, primarily in employment and public accommodations.
Assess jurisdiction, draft and investigate complaints, and facilitate the settlement process by communicating settlement proposals.
Operate in accordance with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and related guidelines.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
Telework: Potential part-time telework up to 2 days per week, subject to approval and conditions (secure internet, approved location inside Pennsylvania). If telework isn’t possible, reporting to the Pittsburgh headquarters is expected. Telework availability can change; details provided during interview
Salary: Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases

Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training:
One year as a Human Relations Representative Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title) or
One year of professional investigative experience (administrative, investigative, regulatory, civil rights, or human rights) involving gathering evidence, interviewing, and reporting findings, plus a bachelor’s degree with 12 credits in related fields (e.g., human resources, civil rights, public policy, or related)
An equivalent combination of training and experience including 12 college credits in related fields
Other Requirements: PA residency; ability to perform essential job functions
Legal and Other Requirements
A conditional offer requires submission of criminal history reports; background investigation is required
Veterans' employment preferences apply where eligible
