An upcoming retirement is creating a career opportunity for an Auto Mechanic I at Cotton Electric Cooperative, Inc.
You’ll be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational oversight of the Cooperative’s fleet, including bucket trucks, service trucks, skid steers, tree chipper, and other equipment.
Skills and Abilities
High school diploma or equivalent required
CDL license preferred
Proficient in welding (MIG, TIG and stick and fabrication technique) is preferred
Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, electric diagnostics and diesel and gasoline engines is preferred

SUMMARY This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational oversight of the Cooperative’s fleet, including bucket trucks, service trucks, skid steers, tree chippers, and other equipment. It also oversees fleet compliance and specialized equipment such as welding and fabrication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Make needed repairs to all vehicles and equipment.
Perform preventive and regular scheduled maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to do all welding needed by the cooperative.
Keep records on all vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Make routine safety inspections of all equipment and vehicles.
Keep shop clean and orderly.
Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
Enter service maintenance and manage fleet in fleet management software.
Operates a wrecker to pull out stuck vehicles and tow stalled vehicles.
Ability to respond to after‑hours urgent emergencies as needed.
Assists with other duties and departments as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The employee must have the ability to understand mechanical and DC voltage schematics. Must be able to keep accurate written records. The employee must have a thorough knowledge of the operation of different types of mechanical equipment and its repair.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Must have the ability to read and follow general written instructions. Must be able to communicate in written form. Must be able to communicate verbally.
MATH SKILLS Must have a basic command of math skills.
REASONING ABILITY Able to solve practical, everyday problems. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must obtain a valid Oklahoma Class A commercial driver license within the first four (4) months of employment unless granted a written extension by Management. Must be able to satisfactorily complete the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) required drug and alcohol testing. Technical certification or associate degree in automotive/diesel mechanics or related field is preferred.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Must have good “people skills”. Ability to perform assigned tasks and to assign tasks in a manner that is non‑offensive to co‑workers. Proficient in welding (MIG, TIG and stick and fabrication technique) is preferred. Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, electric diagnostics and diesel and gasoline engines is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the tasks of this position, the employee will be subjected to stooping, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, prolonged standing on concrete. The employee shall be able to lift 50 pounds and place it on a workbench. The employee shall have sufficient hearing to be able to hear noises in mechanical devices. This job requires the regular use of hands and fingers to be able to handle and feel objects, tools, and controls. Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS This is considered a high risk job. This type of employee will be dealing with heavy equipment and work in the proximity of potential lethal high voltage. Employees in this position must be mentally alert and vigilant. Employees must maintain the mental capability to react quickly to sudden changes and maintain a clear understanding of the task they are performing. This employee is responsible for the safety of others and must have the capability to remain mentally attentive to their work situations. Employees in this category must have a current CDL license and will be required to adhere to the rules and regulations as defined under 49 C.F.R. Part 391 (Disqualification of Drivers) and also under 49 C.F.R. Part 391 (Qualifications of Drivers).
WORK ENVIRONMENT Majority of work will be performed in a shop environment, with periodic field work as needed to assist employees.
