Union New American – Sous Chef
Union New American is located at the Westshore City Center in Tampa. Union is the go-to for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch with globally inspired fare. Guests can also enjoy a private event space on the second floor. The space will offer live music and dining in an outdoor terrace lounge.
Job Summary Under the direction of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef is responsible for maintaining the highest quality and standards in the daily operations of the kitchen. The Sous Chef oversees the production, operation, safety and sanitation within the kitchen.
Qualifications And Requirements
3+ years of experience working as Sous Chef in a similar volume‑based business, upscaled dining preferred.
Ability to demonstrate discretion and leadership in complex employee relations matters.
Strong computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, events/catering software, timekeeping/scheduling systems and point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.
Demonstrated experience collaborating and communicating across all levels of an organization.
Strong communication skills. Written and verbal (1:1 and in a group setting).
Able to understand, speak and follow written and verbal instruction in English.
Must be able to obtain manager food safety certifications.
Flexible and dependable to work full‑time day or night shifts, weekends and holidays, up to 50 hours per week.
Culinary degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the kitchen, including food and beverage areas.
Must be able to taste and differentiate between flavors and aromas, and to respond to visual and auditory cues.
Requires hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Must be able to tolerate varying levels of stress, temperature, illumination, air quality and fatigue.
Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks including constant reaching, bending, stooping, wiping, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time.
Must have the ability to lift, push, pull approximately 25 lbs.
Must be able to stand and/or walk for up to 10 hours during a single shift, while possibly navigating ramps, stairs, and elevators.
