HVAC Mechanic with IFAS Facilities Planning and Operations provides preventive maintenance and general maintenance support to UF/IFAS-owned buildings on and off campus. Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL). Salary: $22.03 - $26 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Work type: Staff Full-Time. Responsibilities

Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment, including air conditioners, air handlers, air compressors, condensing units, refrigeration units, centrifuges, chillers, evaporative coolers, and circulating water pumps. Works with building automation systems and greenhouses. Some tasks require driving a state vehicle to job sites. Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance on a variety of other building systems, including electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry. Works independently to perform system installations for new and replacement systems; includes specification, procurement and installation, as well as proper recycling/disposal of old units. Works with vendors to solicit bids for mechanical replacement and modification for minor projects and medium-sized system changes. Provides training and guidance to new HVAC technicians as necessary to foster further skill development and on-the-job experience. Completes paperwork and reports in support of the preventive and scheduled maintenance of all building systems, including daily chiller readings, materials used and labor required for the tasks, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Completion of an approved heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge in installation and repair of HVAC systems. Knowledge in installation and repair of electrical systems, pneumatic systems, mechanical systems. Skilled in repair and installation of control circuit systems. Skilled in repair and maintenance of boiler systems. Ability to read blueprints and schematics. Ability to use hand and power tools. Ability to follow instructions. Must hold and maintain EPA certifications. Special Instructions to Applicants
