Summary

The Phoenix VA Healthcare System is recruiting a Senior Social Worker for the VA Supportive Housing (VASH) program. The role may include administrative responsibility for clinical program development, accountability for program effectiveness, and modification of service patterns. Duties

The Senior Social Worker serves as Team Lead/Case Manager for homeless and formerly homeless Veterans with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Serious Mental Illnesses (SMI) enrolled in HUD‑VASH. Responsibilities include: Provide psychosocial treatment in the community and at the VA. Manage case load of Veterans with complex needs. Oversee shared caseload in HUD‑VASH. Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling. Conduct independent clinical services to veterans and families. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings. Administer thorough psychosocial assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans. Utilize medical and mental health diagnoses, conduct suicide risk assessment, and apply evidence‑based interventions. Provide consultation, mentoring, and clinical supervision; lead daily team huddles. Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; times and days may change to meet service needs. Financial Disclosure Report

U.S. Citizen. Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Complete online onboarding; acceptable identification per U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Annual influenza vaccination required for all VA Health Care Personnel. Qualifications

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. Licensed or certified at the advanced practice level (ASWB advanced generalist or clinical exam) or grant‑conditioned state licensure, except California. Experience, Education & Licensure

Senior Social Workers should demonstrate advanced practice skills and judgment with at least two years in specialized social work practice. Candidate must hold state‑advanced practice licensure (ASWB advanced generalist or clinical exam) or equivalent. Additional certification or post‑master’s training from a nationally recognized organization is acceptable. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced mastery of theories and modalities for complex physical or mental illness. Expert skill in specialized interventions (individual, group, family counseling, advanced case management). Ability to measure and improve social work practice effectiveness via outcome evaluations. Consultation and mentorship to colleagues and students; provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Innovation in assessment or intervention models for specialized clinical needs. Policy, procedure, and practice guideline development related to the specialty population. Assignments

The Senior Social Worker is typically assigned to major specialty treatment programs such as Polytrauma Rehabilitation Centers, Spinal Cord Injury Centers, VHA referral centers, or national PTSD and transplant centers. The role may involve clinical practice in environments without social work supervision, such as CBOCs or satellite clinics, and liaison work in Military Treatment Facilities. Physical Requirements

Travel throughout the community is required. Responsibilities involve sitting, walking, standing, and carrying items such as books, papers, files. A valid driver’s license and use of a government vehicle may be necessary. Education

Only education accredited by the U.S. Department of Education qualifies for federal employment. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency and transcript.
