Position Overview
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a nine‑month, non‑tenure track lecturer position in digital media beginning August 2026. This one‑year position is renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and available funding. Lecturer rank is expected to teach a 4/4 load, focusing on digital storytelling with an emphasis in field video, podcasting, and other digital media production. Opportunities to teach content‑focused courses such as media and society are also possible.
Responsibilities
Teach courses in digital media production, including field video, podcasting, and related technologies.
Develop and deliver original course content aligned with departmental goals.
Provide student mentoring, advising and service to the department and campus.
Participate in departmental committees and community outreach as negotiated with the supervisor.
Optionally engage in summer teaching or signature projects based on candidate skills and experience.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
MS, MA, or MFA in communication studies, media studies or a closely related field at time of application.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Demonstrated ability to teach applied learning and collaborate with community partners.
Desire to advise student organizations.
Skill in using current video and audio production equipment and maintaining industry standards.
Secondary teaching and service areas that meet the needs of the department, university, and community.
