Location: Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Fitzsimons, a 180-bed skilled nursing facility serving Colorado’s veterans.

Office: Office of Adult, Aging, and Disability Services, Colorado Department of Human Services.

About the Facility: The VCLC at Fitzsimons provides long‑term care, short‑term rehabilitation, and a secure memory care neighborhood. It is located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center, and boasts a low staff turnover rate of 14%.

Description of Job While in this position, you are required to work at your assigned location during your scheduled work times. Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

This position functions independently in performing a full range of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: cooking meals in the main and satellite kitchens, serving residents, cleaning, sanitation, and related tasks. This includes following generally accepted and facility food service standards. This position performs a variety of heavy manual labor food service duties, including, but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, pots and pans. It requires heavy lifting, manual labor, and long periods of standing and walking, which includes delivering the food hot boxes to the satellite kitchens. This position helps to stock and maintain par levels in the storeroom, coolers and freezers, and supervises the above mentioned tasks and responsibilities in the absence of the Food Services Director.

Responsibilities

Train new employees on the functions of the job and provide appropriate reports to the Food Service Manager.

Supervise subordinate staff to ensure daily operations for food service is conducted within department standards and complete dining room meal‑service audits.

Complete PMP’s, status changes, implement progressive discipline and respond to grievances as required.

Follow standardized recipes and prepare all aspects of meals to food safety standards, visual appeal, palatability for residents.

Prepare, puree, and plate a variety of menu items including salads, desserts, and therapeutic diets ensuring correct textures, temperatures, and portion sizes while fulfilling special resident requests for alternative choices.

Accurately serve regular and modified diets across units using resident tray cards, deliver snacks and supplies to storage areas, and maintain a clean service environment; provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

Communicate immediately and directly with Food Service Director of any department concerns.

Maintain all kitchen equipment according to set guidelines and clean each piece of equipment after each use.

Wash and sanitize pots, pans and all kitchen food service equipment; collect, dispose of trash and maintain dumpster trash area.

Monitor and record all food temperatures while food is removed from oven/cooling unit and before the items leave the main kitchen.

If foods are not at proper serving temperature solve the problem immediately and provide solutions.

Prepare and serve residents in private dining rooms as needed and special occasions.

Assist food service supervisor in inventorying supplies and foods (perishables and nonperishables), freezer, and storeroom.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position with one (1) year of long‑term care experience.

Conditions of Employment

CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): Full Background Check including CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification, Drug Screen, PREA, Trails check, CAPS.

This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment.
