The Grade Foreman must be able to manage and perform mass grading and excavation, subgrade preparation, road, sewer and water installation. The successful candidate for this role will have a demonstrated ability to recruit, train and retain crew members focused on safety, quality and productivity.
Overall Responsibilities/Functions
Supervise while contributing to work activities of a 3-5 person construction crew members in their day to day activities
Ensure compliance with the Company’s Safety Policies and Procedures
Manage and oversee embankment and pond excavation
Manage and perform grading and excavation, subgrade preparation, road, sewer and water installation.
Shoot grades using a transit, laser level or pipe laser
Ensure crews have tools, materials, and instruction to complete tasks
Preplan schedule, manpower, and equipment needs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with the Project Management Team
Coordinate material and labor needs with Project Superintendent
Coordinate work activities with owner’s staff and subcontractors
Report daily crew and equipment hours
and quantities to management staff
Understand and meet production rates to meet schedule and budget requirements
Understand and utilize the Contract Drawings and Specifications
Essential Skills and Experience
At least 3 years of heavy highway/civil experience managing construction crews
Proven track record working safely
Layout ability with the use of auto levels, lasers, and other survey equipment
Ability to calculate quantities for materials and supplies
Ability to effectively supervise small to midsized groups
Ability to read and interpret construction documents, plans and specifications
Effective communication and organizational skills
Ability to work outside in the elements
Saturdays are required periodically as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
Noise levels in the work environment is usually loud.
Ability to wear and work in personnel protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ankle-supporting safety-toed work boots and a safety vest.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Extensive moving or positioning heavy weighted materials (up to 50 lbs.).
Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
