Camp Fire Minnesota addresses the challenge by delivering culturally relevant, nature‑based programs at our Excelsior and Grand Rapids properties and throughout the community to over 6,500 youth from all backgrounds each year. We help youth “light their spark within” through summer camp, environmental education & STEM classes for schools, and community‑based out‑of‑school time nature programs. We are proud to offer inclusive and welcoming programs to youth in the community. To this end, 40% of Camp Fire youth participate at reduced or no cost. As a result of their Camp Fire experience, 92% of youth report valuing nature and stewarding the environment. Our summer camps at our Excelsior property offer youth and teens, progressive, nature‑based learning through day, specialty day, overnight, adventure and leadership development camps. Work with campers, staff, and families to support campers in our after‑school and scholarship programs adjust to camp life. Build positive relationships with after‑school and scholarship campers through regular interaction and connection. Support in building a positive camp culture among the staff that centers inclusion, diversity, and equity within the day‑to‑day camper experience. Serve as a second counselor within an overnight cabin that supports after‑school and scholarship campers each week. Act as a resource to staff in discussing strategies to support inclusion and success, as well as addressing camper behaviors as needed. Provide spaces for campers to have breaks from their group as needed. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group and with individual campers, and support conflict resolution by facilitating restorative practices between campers as needed. Meet with the School Programs Manager weekly. Serve as a liaison for after‑school and scholarship camper families preparing for their overnight camp experience by conducting pre‑camp check‑in calls, addressing their concerns, and communicating them to counselors. Review camper paperwork to make sure it is complete in Active. Ensure campers have the packing list supplies needed and facilitate any borrowing of program materials such as sleeping bags, headlamps, etc. on the first and last day of each session. Community Transportation: Lead the community transportation efforts to and from camp with after‑school campers. Identify students participating in transportation program and send details to their families prior to pick‑ups/drop offs. Partner Overnight & Day Camp Program: Serve as a lead staff person for partner day and overnight programs taking place throughout the summer through facilitating sessions. Support counselors with preparing for programs through pre‑program and day of prep. Other General Camp duties: Work as part of the camp leadership team on other tasks as assigned. Help each participant meet their goals. Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory sessions. Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents and visitors. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties are assigned as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in an active environment. Ability to relate to one’s peer group and to children. Good character, integrity, and adaptability. Experience working with youth from a variety of backgrounds, abilities, and cultures. Interest in and experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds and/or need additional support to settle into camp life. Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant support of campers. Ability to help peers with scheduling and planning of programs based on the needs of their campers. Ability to take and pass a First Aid Certification course. Desired Availability:

Salary starting at $660 per week.
