The Alotian Club, located in Roland, Arkansas, is seeking a committed and detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent to join our grounds team. This position represents an exceptional career development opportunity for an individual aspiring to advance into a Superintendent role at a premier club.

Under the leadership of Justin Sims, Director of Grounds and Facilities, the selected candidate will benefit from a proven track record of mentorship and advancement. Over his 13 years at The Alotian Club, Justin has successfully developed and placed nine team members into Superintendent positions at nationally recognized clubs.

This tradition of cultivating talent underscores the club’s commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders in the turfgrass profession.

The Assistant Superintendent role provides an opportunity to refine technical and agronomic expertise while further developing the attributes essential for success (leadership, strategic problem-solving, and resilience) at the highest levels of the industry.

Club Highlights

Work Schedule:

In Season: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM, working every third weekend unless a tournament is scheduled

Off Season: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, working every third weekend

Turf Types

Greens: A-4 Bentgrass

Tees, Approaches, Collars: Zeon/Cavalier Zoysia

Fairways and Rough: El Toro Zoysia

Irrigation System: Toro

Equipment: John Deere, Toro, Jacobsen, Caterpillar

Future Projects: Irrigation system renovation

Initial Priorities of Position:

Support daily operations and lead team activities

Deliver high-quality turf and playing conditions

Assist in ongoing staff development and culture building

Contribute to planning and preparations for irrigation system renovation

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in managing all aspects of golf course maintenance

Lead and train crew members, ensuring effective and safe practices

Monitor turf health and contribute to agronomic programs

Support record-keeping, budget tracking, and long-term planning

Partner with the Superintendent on execution of course goals

Essential Functions:

Direct and oversee staff in daily activities with focus on quality standards

Serve as liaison between staff and management

Supervise training programs and ensure compliance with documentation

Manage IPM program (pesticide/fertilizer applications and records)

Assist with interviews, evaluations, and onboarding

Coordinate specialty equipment and oversee infrastructure (pump stations, etc.)

Maintain greens data (speed, firmness, etc.)

Additional Responsibilities:

Support irrigation system maintenance

Participate in professional development opportunities

Recommend process improvements

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Certificate in Turfgrass Management (required)

3-5 years of golf course maintenance experience

Strong communication and leadership skills

Knowledge of irrigation systems, turf practices, and equipment use

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain pesticide license

Compensation & Benefits:

$75,000 - $85,000
