Our Machinists in Mount Vernon work on large-scale, multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to machine precision components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers. This is a low-volume, highly-engineered manufacturing environment where you participate in the full life cycle of the build. You will work in a safe, clean, and highly-specialized environment alongside a skilled team, demonstrating machining skills while supporting the safety of our nation’s sailors. Paid on-the-job training and mentoring precede independent work. The role offers a four-day work week, competitive pay, paid time off, medical, dental, vision and retirement contributions with a 401(k) match. Overtime is required but flexible; shift premiums apply for second shift and other overtime structures. A $4,000 sign-on bonus is currently offered. On-site in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Your Day to Day as a CNC Machinist
In this role, you will set up and operate CNC machine tools to perform milling, drilling, tapping/thread milling, boring and turning operations to meet print specifications. Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet customer requirements and specifications. Work to ±.001” tolerance and 16 microfinish when necessary. Write/edit programs using both G and M coded controls (Siemens and Fanuc controls preferred). Troubleshoot challenges with support from on-site engineering. Routinely read and understand written instructions, technical procedures, prints, sketches, and bills of materials. Collaborate with CNC Programmer and team to develop and test run programs. Apply advanced mathematical skills to calculate proper speed and feed rates. Operate crane or assist with rigging and moving of parts. Maintain a clean work area and perform daily housekeeping duties. Communicate with opposite shift through face-to-face carryover and log books. Work with tooling application engineers to devise optimum tooling design and practices. Follow all applicable company procedures, policies and rules. Required Qualifications
High school equivalency with a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience. Associate’s of Applied Science degree in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent training plus two (2) years on-the-job experience may be considered in lieu of experience. Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, angle plates, rules, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges, levels, protractors, verniers, and light hand tools. Ability to maintain detailed records; ability to complete process documentation and other production records. Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends. U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship is required for this position. Preferred Qualifications
Experience machining parts greater than 8 feet in diameter and 10 tons is preferred. Experience with different machining attachments (right angle, universal, offset milling) is preferred. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred. What We Offer
