The Journeyman Fire Sprinkler Fitter plays a vital role in building and maintaining integrated fire sprinkler systems, working from detailed CAD designs to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and high standards of workmanship. Responsibilities
Interpret and implement fire sprinkler system designs, including pipe routing, sizing, and head placement in accordance with NFPA codes. Select appropriate types and sizes of pipe, fittings, supports, and related materials based on project specifications. Inspect work sites to identify potential obstructions and ensure structural integrity during installation. Plan and execute installation or repair work to avoid conflicts with other trades and minimize disruptions. Cut, thread, fabricate, assemble, and install metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, and CPVC piping. Connect pipes using threaded, grooved, or cemented joints and secure them with brackets, clamps, and hangers. Test completed systems for leaks by increasing pressure and monitoring gauges. Supervise and train apprentices, assign tasks, and provide direction on job sites. Coordinate with other trades, address on-site issues, and resolve problems as they arise. Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company and industry standards. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Journeyman's License in Fire Sprinkler Protection required. Valid driver’s license required. Experience with fire sprinkler system installation, maintenance, or repair preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction documents, and safety instructions. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to supervise, train, and direct apprentices and other team members. Proficient in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and understanding of rates and ratios. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and work in various environments.
