Location: Broward County main courthouse (Fort Lauderdale), Women In Distress’ Family Center and Satellite locations as needed.

Position Summary The Court Justice Advocate will provide targeted advocacy, assist survivors in understanding the court system, criminal prosecutions, and the role of survivors/witnesses, as well as develop safety plans and facilitate or refer participants to advocacy support groups for domestic violence survivors, fostering empowerment and knowledge of the criminal justice system.
Days/Hours 40 hrs/week; Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., or reflective of courthouse hours; flexible schedule required to meet agency needs.
Qualifications/Skills
Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) or related field and minimum three years of relevant experience. Case management or criminal‑justice/legal experience preferred.
Valid Florida driver’s license and safe driving record. Proof of automobile liability insurance.
Bilingual preferred (Spanish/Creole/Portuguese).
Essential Job Functions
Provide services at the Broward County Courthouse, Women In Distress’ Main Campus, and satellite locations.
Assist survivors in understanding court procedures, criminal prosecutions, and survivor witness roles; develop safety plans; refer to advocacy support groups.
Accompany or arrange transportation for domestic‑violence survivors to civil and criminal court proceedings.
Inform survivors of their rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), including orders of protection and criminal charges.
Facilitate completion of services, mandated forms, and public justice resources available at the courthouse.
Partner with supervisor to build court‑system partnerships, monitor domestic‑violence case responses, and refer survivors to Women In Distress residential and outreach programs.
Ensure services are empowerment‑based and consistent with DCF Domestic Violence Program standards.
Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Additional Notes
Employee must complete Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
