PostgreSQL Database Administrator – In Office (Houston, TX)
Summary |
ATSER is seeking a highly skilled and security-focused PostgreSQL Database Administrator with deep expertise in Azure PostgreSQL PaaS, replication, and Row-Level Security (RLS). This position plays a critical role in designing, maintaining, and securing our enterprise data infrastructure that powers mission-critical applications, including ManageIT TM .
Key Responsibilities |
Database Design & Modeling
Design and optimize relational database schemas, tables, indexes, and constraints for performance and scalability.
Work with developers and product teams to implement efficient data structures that align with business requirements.
Manage Azure PostgreSQL instances, including provisioning, configuration, backup, patching, and monitoring.
Optimize performance and availability of Azure PostgreSQL environments.
Replication & High Availability
Architect, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL replication strategies (e.g., logical replication, read replicas, failover solutions).
Ensure database environments meet RTO/RPO and uptime requirements.
Security & Compliance
Implement and maintain Row-Level Security (RLS) and role-based access controls.
Ensure databases follow best practices for encryption, authentication, and auditing.
Partner with the security team to support StateRAMP and NIST 800-53 compliance initiatives.
Monitoring & Maintenance
Conduct regular health checks, monitor performance metrics, and troubleshoot database performance issues.
Automate maintenance tasks such as vacuuming, indexing, partitioning, and alerting.
Manage and optimize backup/restore processes.
Collaborate with DevOps, application teams, and other DBAs for CI/CD and deployment support.
Maintain documentation for database processes, standards, and configurations.
Required Qualifications |
5+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, with at least 2 years in Azure PostgreSQL PaaS
Strong expertise in:
PostgreSQL replication strategies
Row-Level Security (RLS)
Performance tuning and indexing
Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL development skills
Deep understanding of database security, access control, and audit logging
Proficient in scripting for automation (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, or Python)
Preferred Qualifications |
Experience with high-availability PostgreSQL architectures on Azure
Familiarity with pgAdmin, Azure CLI, Terraform, or other IaC tools
Knowledge of data warehousing, reporting, or analytical database use cases
Experience in agile or DevSecOps environments
