Canon City

The eligible list established from this job posting will be used to fill current and future Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program (SOTMP) vacancies throughout the state. State correctional facilities are located in Crowley, Buena Vista, Canon City, Delta, Denver, Limon, Pueblo, Rifle, Sterling and Trinidad.

Responsibilities

Review records and interview inmates to assess sexual violence level, treatment needs, and treatment amenability.

Develop and modify individual treatment plans and goals as required by individual needs of the inmates.

Provide offense specific treatment to sex offenders by conducting group therapy and supplemental individual therapy, and evaluations according to the SOTMP program design.

Document assessment and treatment interventions in the appropriate department forms and databases.

Assure continuity of care for sex offenders by providing written reports for community corrections placement and Parole Board hearings; provide consultation to staff and external agencies; workshops and follow up contact for families and community support systems.

Promote and be accountable for safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment; report safety concerns as required.

Attend training programs as assigned, including self-defense to ensure self-protection skills.

Participate in SOTMP meetings to design and update program content and to ensure consistent delivery of sex offender treatment services throughout the DOC.

Review sex offender specific evaluations; provide training for the correctional system regarding philosophy, rationale, treatment and management of sex offenders’ high risk behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy. You must attach transcripts containing your name, institution, degree, and conferral date.

Within 30 days after completion of the Training Academy, apply to obtain listing with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).

Possession of a current, valid permit or license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as one of the following: Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist Candidate, or Psychologist.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health field from a CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT/COAMFTE, or APA-accredited program.

License eligible as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist.

Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment.

Required Competencies

Provide professional mental health or sex offender treatment to inmates;

Efficient, with excellent written and verbal communication skills;

Ability to collaborate across facility programs and with external agencies;

Ability to work independently and maintain clinical documentation;

Maintain required registration/permits/licensure as applicable;

Ability to work with a diverse inmate population and within a multidisciplinary team;

Strong English reading, writing, and communication skills;

Ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines;

Maintain composure and resilience under stress; adaptability to shift work and rotating schedules.
