Paralegal Aide – Office of the New York City Comptroller
Position open to current employees of the City of New York with a permanent (not provisional) civil service title of Paralegal Aide. Please indicate your permanent civil service title on your resume and cover letter.

The Bureau of Labor Law (BLL) seeks a paralegal to manage the organization of its labor investigations case files. The paralegal will be part of the BLL Enforcement Unit, which investigates violations of prevailing wage laws and seeks to recover back wages for workers. The position reports to the Bureau's director and will support investigators and attorneys, approximately 10-15 individuals, preparing and reviewing legal correspondence, ensuring case files are organized and up-to-date, and providing general administrative support.
Responsibilities
Propose and implement a system for organization and systematization of the Bureau of Labor Law shared drive, consolidating folders, moving unused or duplicate documents to an archive, and creating a uniform system of file maintenance.
Review and draft correspondence to contractors, complainants, witnesses, and City agencies.
Assist in preparing and reviewing legal documents including the Notice to Produce, subpoenas, and agency requests.
Assist in organizing documents received during a Labor Law investigation, including certified payrolls, sign-in sheets, bank records, and related documents.
Ensure that records are added and organized in a timely manner in the Bureau's OAISIS case management system.
Help prepare files, exhibits, and witness lists for proceedings at the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.
Communicate with workers, employers, attorneys, unions, and City agency personnel as directed by attorneys or investigators.
Perform other duties as needed by the Bureau.
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including regional, national, professional or specialized accreditation recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college, plus two years of full‑time satisfactory experience in paralegal services in the United States.
A four‑year high school diploma or equivalent, plus four years of full‑time satisfactory experience in paralegal services in the United States.
A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to option 1, 2, or 3. A paralegal certification obtained in the United States or a program approved by the American Bar Association can substitute for 12 months of experience; undergraduate credit can substitute for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for 12 months of experience. All candidates must have at least a four‑year high school diploma or equivalent.
To be acceptable, experience in paralegal services must have involved the American Legal System.
Experience that is primarily legal secretarial or includes only incidental paralegal services is not acceptable.
Special Note Individuals must have one additional year of pertinent paralegal experience or a baccalaureate degree in addition to the requirements above to be eligible for Assignment Level II duties and pay of Paralegal Aide.
Preferred Skills
Exceptional organizational skills; experience handling multiple assignments with competing deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to solve problems.
Skilled with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Teams, and experience managing electronic case files.
Background or interest in labor or public interest law.
