Paralegal Aide – City of New York Join the City of New York’s Comptroller’s Office as a Paralegal Aide, working within the Bureau of Labor Law’s Enforcement Unit to investigate violations of prevailing wage laws and recover back wages for workers. This position is open only to current City employees holding a permanent civil service title of Paralegal Aide. Please indicate your permanent civil service title on your resume and cover letter.

Responsibilities

Propose and implement an organization system for the Bureau of Labor Law shared drive, including consolidating folders, archiving unused or duplicate documents, and creating a uniform file maintenance system.

Review and draft correspondence to contractors, complainants, witnesses, and City agencies.

Assist preparing and reviewing legal documents including Notices to Produce, subpoenas, and agency requests.

Assist in organizing documents received during a Labor Law investigation, including certified payrolls, sign‑in sheets, bank records, and related documents.

Ensure records are added and organized in a timely manner in the Bureau’s OAISIS case management system.

Help prepare files, exhibits, and witness lists for proceedings at the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.

Communicate with workers, employers, attorneys, unions, and City agency personnel as directed by investigators.

Perform other duties as needed by the Bureau.

Minimum Qualifications

Four‑year baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or

Associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college plus two years of full‑time satisfactory experience in the performance of paralegal services; or

Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of full‑time satisfactory experience in the performance of paralegal services; or

A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to one of the above, with a paralegal certification or undergraduate credit substitutions as noted.

Experience must involve the American Legal System. Experience primarily legal secretarial or incidental paralegal services is not acceptable.

Special Note Individuals must have one additional year of pertinent paralegal experience or a baccalaureate degree in addition to the above requirements to be eligible for Assignment Level II duties and pay.

Preferred Skills

Exceptional organizational skills with a high degree of detail and accuracy.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to solve problems.

Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Teams, and experience managing electronic case files.

Background or interest in labor or public interest law.

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City employees who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss the residency requirement with the agency representative at the time of interview.
