Overview The Paralegal in Trusts & Estates will assist attorneys and senior paralegals in administering estates, funding trusts, preparing documents, and handling client case management. The position is virtual or based at any of our locations.
Responsibilities
Prepare/assist with Gift Tax, Estate Tax, and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns.
Maintain financial records of trusts; perform trust accounting and audit accounts.
Maintain G/L accounts, reconcile broker statements, prepare payables and bank deposits.
Obtain and reconcile 1099 and K‑1 statements.
Fund revocable and irrevocable trusts (pre‑ and post‑death).
Administer probate, including drafting probate pleadings.
Maintain close personal contact with clients and financial advisors.
Meet annual billable hours requirement of 1,500 hours.
Develop technical proficiency in database use and management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
Organize and manage files independently or delegate to Records Clerk and supervise.
Maintain a professional demeanor, appearance, and firm policy compliance.
Show attention to detail and quality of work, and deliver superior customer service.
Collaborate within a team and adapt to changing business demands.
Position Requirements
5+ years Trusts & Estates experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal certificate from ABA‑approved program (or equivalent substantive experience).
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Proven success in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Excellent time management and prioritization.
Corporate and real‑estate experience a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with tax and trust accounting software (GEMS, BNA, ProSystems, EVP).
Experience with document database programs.
Significant client case‑management experience.
Exceptional attention to detail.
High level of organization, workflow prioritization, and project management.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
Compensation and Benefits Employees receive compensation commensurate with skill and experience. Exact salary varies. Expected ranges by state are listed below:
California: $86,000 – $139,000
Colorado: $75,000 – $119,000
Illinois: $64,000 – $125,000
Maryland: $73,000 – $107,000
Massachusetts: $85,000 – $130,000
Minnesota: $75,000 – $111,000
Jersey City, NJ: $78,000 – $114,000
New York: $66,000 – $125,000
Washington: $88,000 – $134,000
Washington, DC: $94,000 – $138,000
