Position Summary: The Camp Ranger is responsible for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all council properties as assigned by the director of property and/or senior-level council management. The Ranger also provides support to all site-user groups and staff, ensuring that council regulations and procedures are observed and followed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide information, check-in/check-out and necessary support and security to all site-user groups, being adaptable to the variety of needs inherent with different user-groups such as: troop camping, council events, day camp, resident camp and outside user groups.
Provide ground maintenance and janitorial service for camp.
Assist with maintenance needs of other Girl Scout facilities as needed.
Assist with plans to maintain the property or properties and its facilities including, but not limited to, waterfront access, pool, roads and trails, vehicles and equipment, in safe, usable operating conditions according to council standards and compliance to federal, state and local regulation.
Ensure facilities, including kitchens, lodges, unit houses, cabins and restrooms are routinely cleaned and sanitized to meet GSCC and Department of Health standards.
Maintain appropriate documentation provided by GSUSA Property Management System and routinely submit all required written reports (task lists and receipts) to meet the schedules as assigned by the Director of Property. Task lists will be prepared documenting the work scheduled during the current week and the completed task list will be turned in documenting details of the work completed, and time utilized to complete each task.
Participate in supervisory conferences, staff meetings and/or programs as scheduled and support teamwork throughout the organization.
Maintain appropriate communications with the Head Ranger and other staff/volunteers so she/he is kept abreast of unplanned or unusual activities or events which impact the properties.
The position routinely requires working on Saturdays and/or Sundays and evenings, as scheduled by the Head Ranger.
Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Property.
Periodically travel to scout houses for routine maintenance or projects.
Ranger Housing (optional) The Camp Ranger may reside in on-site housing provided by council. Council covers the cost for electricity, water, and internet for ranger housing. Rangers agree to appropriately maintain the home in a livable, clean condition. Every adult who lives in the home should be named as tenants and agree to the limitations as set forth. Every adult must also successfully complete a level-2 background check. Cost of the background check for the Ranger will be covered by council, however all other adults must cover the cost of their background check.
Occupancy of council ranger housing is restricted to the Camp Ranger, his/her spouse, minor children and immediate adult family member who are disabled. The ranger housing agreement runs month-to-month, and the property must be vacated within 30 days following the ranger’s voluntary or involuntary termination of employment as a Camp Ranger.
Home-based business conducted by the Ranger and/or other tenants should not conflict with Ranger duties. Business traffic will not be allowed on property and all local, state, and national zoning and licensing regulations must be followed.
Two pets are allowed and should be properly secured at all times. Documentation of all pets must be submitted to council and should include breed and proof of current vaccinations. Some breeds of dogs will not be allowed on property and is solely determined at the discretion of the council. Council grounds, including property immediately surrounding ranger housing, must be kept free of animal waste.
It is the Camp Ranger’s responsibility to keep the home and surrounding property clean and sanitary and to personally pay for any damage caused by his/her abuse or neglect. Camp Ranger must immediately notify the Head Ranger of any defective or dangerous conditions in the housing and surrounding grounds. Alterations to the property are not allowed without specific approval from the council CEO.
Council representatives retain the right to enter ranger housing to make repairs and assess maintenance. Council will provide 24-hour written notice to the Ranger before entering the property. Should the Ranger invite a council representative to enter the property, written notice will not be necessary.
Disruptive or illegal behavior will not be tolerated and may be cause for immediate termination of employment and ranger housing must be vacated within 72 hours.
Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge of Girl Scouts of Citrus and GSUSA policies and procedures.
Required Skills/Abilities
Minimum one year of experience in maintenance.
Skills in basic Microsoft Office Suite and computers.
General knowledge in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Travel throughout council jurisdiction, up to 50% of the time.
Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid operator license.
Register annually for a GSUSA membership and have a favorable criminal level 2 background check and the National Sexual Offender Public Website.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to provide positive customer service to both internal and external customers.
Knowledge and skills with the use of basic tools such as: skill saw, table saw, power drill, drill press, router, sander, power washer, and non-power tools such as wrenches, hammers, saws and grounds maintenance equipment such as: chain saws, ride-on mowers, push mowers, weed whackers brush cutters, and pruning equipment.
Ability to routinely lift and carry items weighing up to sixty (60) pounds and occasionally up to eighty (80) pounds.
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of vehicles and equipment including trucks, lawn mowers, weed whackers and trailers. Driving trucks and hauling trailers is a necessity.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to withstand:
Prolonged periods of outside exposure in different weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds at times.
