Performs paraprofessional work assisting with planning, organizing, supervising special events, the Growers’ Market, special programs and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Events Manager. Work includes regular weeknight and weekend hours. The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.

Assists with the planning, organization, and facilitation of various special events and programs. Responsible for management of the Growers’ Market, including vendor recruitment, application processing, vetting, retaining vendors, policy and procedure enforcement and weekly vendor communication. Attend and work weekly at the Growers’ Market (all Saturdays will be required during market season), including set-up and clean-up of Market materials (signage, tents, tables, chairs etc.). Coordinate, execute, and track the market nutritional assistance program (SNAP)and report all pertinent data for assistance programs and other partner organizations. Assist with updating, creating, and implementing official market policies and procedures for vendors. Performs safety checks on facilities and equipment before setting up for various events; restores facilities and equipment as needed after events conclude. Assists in creating a budget for current and new events; documents expenditures; prepares programing reports and surveys. Supervises volunteer staff for market and special events. Assists in the marketing of programs and events, including social media, email blasts and physical flyers. Assists in supervising and training part-time staff; participates in recruitment and selection process; recommends appropriate candidates for hire; recommends disciplinary and termination actions. Maintains contracts and other documentation for vendors. Occasionally drives town bus/van for programming needs. Performs other duties as assigned. General knowledge of the principles and practices of professional recreation, growers or farmers markets, or community events work; ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with the public and program participants; ability to schedule and coordinate multiple special events; ability to provide working leadership to a group of event participants; skill in the use of instruments, tools or other equipment used in recreation facility and field maintenance activities; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, activity participants and the general public.

Associate degree in recreation, physical education, or related field with some experience in organized recreation program administration. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position.

Possession of valid North Carolina driver’s license. Must possess or obtain first aid, CPR and AED certifications within 12 months.This position’s physical requirements involve medium exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities maybe required; balancing, climbing, crouching, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking.

The work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. Outdoor Park, Recreation Center front desk, facilitating programs in facility). Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to moderate to extreme cold and heat environmental conditions.
