Position description and responsibilities for a Peer Recovery Navigator supporting drug and alcohol treatment for adult patients in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment at ARTS clinic locations (Denver, Aurora, and Arvada) and the Medication Mobile Unit (MMU). The ARTS program is part of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. This is a full-time, grant-funded University Staff (non-classified) position focused on engaging, educating, and supporting patients, families, and caregivers to connect patients to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services. The role includes outreach to patients, staff, community partners, subcontracted agencies, and other entities as appropriate, travel to various sites, and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Implement peer-led interventions to improve outcomes for patients in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and traditional outpatient treatment. Conduct structured individual and/or group interventions focusing on health education, care coordination, and identifying and reducing barriers to care for patients. Manage and conduct outreach activities in the community to engage patients in SUD treatment. Provide referrals to appropriate resources and establish/maintain weekly communication, onsite or by phone with Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs), MAT providers, hospital Emergency Departments, harm reduction organizations, and law enforcement to educate about treatment availability and referrals. Identify problems, challenges, and obstacles in coordination of patient services, develop potential solutions, and resolve issues in a timely manner. Ensure confidentiality of patient health information and records. Complete paperwork, including consent/participation forms for every patient served, as required by Signal, federal/state regulations, and applicable grant requirements. Attend and participate in Signal and/or grant-specific meetings, trainings, clinic team meetings, and other events as directed by supervisor. Perform duties in a timely and effective manner and complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee. Work Location

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. One (1) year of experience working closely with patients and connecting them to resources, or related work experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher in psychology, social work, counseling, human services, or related field from an accredited institution. Prior experience in Patient Navigation and connecting patients to required services or resources. Experience with clients involved with the criminal justice system, probation/parole, human services, and/or other referral sources. Experience providing administrative support to clients, families, staff, and stakeholders in a substance abuse treatment setting. Experience with electronic health records and Patient Health Information management systems. Current and valid DORA-CAS license or higher as Certified Addiction Specialist or equivalent. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. Ability to engage successfully with substance use disorder clients in treatment. Ability to comply with policies and meet deadlines. Ability to develop healthy client relationships and boundaries; maintain discretion and confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook. Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Candidate must have lived experience with addiction/substance use disorder. Must currently be in sobriety/recovery with existing supports. Must obtain certification as a Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) or Peer Recovery Coach within 30 days of hire and before providing services. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of offer. Must agree to fingerprinting and background checks (CBI and FBI). Subject to pre-employment and ongoing drug/alcohol testing per CU and ARTS policies. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–4:30 pm; some days start at 6:00 am; some weekends may be required for events or clinic coverage. How to Apply
