Wrestling Coach Responsibilities
Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in wrestling. Contribute to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive.
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student‑athletes in wrestling.
Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
Ensures that all wrestling coaches work together toward a common goal within the wrestling program and provide unity with a structured feeder system.
Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
Take all necessary precautions to protect student‑athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program, which includes but is not limited to making changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program.
Wrestling Coach Requirements
Previous experience with wrestling.
The Head Wrestling coach must appreciate the need for the wrestling program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire Athletic Department.
Responsible for all aspects of the wrestling program.
Demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character development.
Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Sterling is located in Logan County in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 14,699 (2020), in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 ½ hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the front range (I‑25 corridor).
RE‑1 Valley School District has two high schools, one middle school, one junior high school, three elementary schools and two preschools and serves approximately 1,920 students in the Sterling and Iliff/Crook areas, employing about 400 staff.
