Overview
Head Wrestling Coach role at Mansfield City School District. This position supervises a high school wrestling program, reports to the Athletic Director, and leads a staff of assistant coaches and middle school coaches in coordination with school administration. Qualifications
Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Has previous successful coaching experience in wrestling. The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions. Reports To
The Athletic Director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. Supervises
Directly and indirectly supervises a staff of assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the Athletic Director and respective principal. Job Goal
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. To promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. General
The success of athletic programs influences the community's image of the district; public exposure and expectations for winning must not override good sportsmanship and mental health. The position includes extended time, risk of injury, and due process considerations. The intent of this description is to guide function; in cases not specifically covered, coaches shall exercise common sense and good judgment. Duties And Responsibilities
Has thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the sports program staff. Understands existing systems, state and league regulations; implements and interprets them for staff. Staff Responsibilities
Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program. Trains and informs staff; encourages professional growth through clinic attendance according to local policy. Delegates duties, supervises implementation and evaluates staff effectiveness. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal. Administrative Duties
Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special events. Prepares for scheduled events and ensures facilities are available; coordinates with maintenance and school staff. Provides documentation for state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility. Safeguards for maintenance and protection of equipment and facilities. Advises the Athletic Director on policy and procedural changes. Student Responsibilities
Mentors athletes to promote character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Monitors students' grades and conduct; provides guidance during travel and practices. Implements training rules and sport-specific regulations; handles injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. Completes injury paperwork promptly and directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians. Determines discipline, follows due process when needed, and communicates with parents about eligibility. Assists athletes in college or further educational planning. Finance And Equipment
Participates in budgeting with the Athletic Director and sets equipment guidelines. Operates within budget; accounts for all equipment and manages issuing, storage, and inventory. Ensures proper marking, security, and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Instills respect for equipment and school property. Public Relations
Organizes preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players, and guests. Promotes the sport within the school and in the community and maintains positive relations with media, booster clubs, and fans. Provides information to news media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results. Conduct : Each staff member shall remain free of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances in the workplace and shall model ethical principles and democratic values for students.
