Yard Spotter / Hostler
in Indianapolis, IN. The
Yard Spotter/Hostler
manages yard operations, including trailer/container movement and positioning to support trailer flow throughout the facility under the Shipping Manager's guidance. The role requires timely trailer movements and adherence to yard rules and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:
Ensure smooth trailer flow by operating yard trucks, switching trailers between docks, and maintaining efficient yard operations.
Support the Shipping department with loading/unloading and optimize yard space through effective trailer arrangements.
Maintain an organized yard to maximize efficiency and customer service.
Operate yard trucks safely during trailer/dock changes involving loaded and empty trailers/containers.
Drive vehicles within the plant and yard at speeds under 15 mph.
Communicate professionally with all personnel levels.
Conduct daily yard checks and proactive communication regarding issues and needs.
Inspect trailers before departure from docks.
Adapt to a fast-paced environment and perform pre/post shift inspections.
Collaborate effectively with team members and follow instructions.
Adhere to safety policies, report incidents immediately, and complete safety training monthly.
Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Maintain exemplary attendance, flexible to shifts, extended hours, and weekends.
Assist with forklift duties and production tasks as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be 18 years old.
At least 2 years of yard hostling experience within the last 3 years.
GED or High School Diploma preferred.
Experience in corrugated industry and holding a Class A CDL license are preferred.
Clean DMV record preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Proven yard hostling experience.
Ability to interpret safety rules, operation manuals, and procedures.
Basic math skills and familiarity with tape measures.
