Job Description
Purpose and Scope This position will assist college students with academic support through mentoring. As a PT Specialist III, TRiO Peer Support, this position assists other students in adjusting to college life. Requires a high level of information provision. Will interact one-on-one and in group settings with students. Will work with and assist diverse groups and provide a high level of customer service and support to TRiO students. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding.
Essential Job Functions
Provides general information related to TRIO SSS
Guides students in developing accountability for their decisions and understanding how those decisions impact their success. Assists students with study skills, time management, academic course intervention, and other college-related skills areas as needed
Sets appointments with students in TRIO SSS for mentoring support. Coordinates tutor and tutee meetings
Records, prepares, maintains, and reviews forms, and performs data entry
Provides handouts and/or forms to potential TRIO SSS participants
Plans a variety of TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) events and activities
Participates in panels for TRIO SSS workshops and visiting groups
Assists with or provides event preparation and campus tours
Maintains knowledge of multiple programs
Responsible for other reasonable, related job duties as assigned

Physical Abilities The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Schedule And Conditions
Schedule will depend on department needs
Equipment used includes a PC workstation in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
Required Qualifications
HS diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience (may include academic coaching, tutoring, mentoring or related activities), or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be a currently enrolled Lone Star student pursuing a course of study with a minimum of 24 credit hours (verified via transcripts)
Current GPA at least 3.0
Salary Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60.
