As a leading electronics manufacturer in CT, our client is seeking an experienced

Materials Manager

to oversee all aspects of material planning, procurement, and inventory control. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring that materials, components, and supplies flow efficiently throughout the organization to support production, quality, and on-time delivery goals. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in materials management within an electronics or high-tech manufacturing environment, with proven experience driving process improvement, supplier performance, and departmental efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and report on departmental goals and objectives in alignment with company short- and long-term plans.

Supervise, coordinate, and expedite the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies within or between departments based on production and shipping schedules.

Review production schedules to determine material requirements and resolve shortages or delays.

Maintain accurate databases for materials, suppliers, and inventory; ensure data integrity across all systems.

Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with suppliers, fostering reliability and long-term partnerships.

Evaluate and monitor vendor contracts to ensure compliance with terms, quality standards, and delivery schedules.

Perform full supervisory duties, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions as needed.

Collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve material and supply issues impacting customer deliverables.

Prepare and manage monthly departmental expenditure reports and contribute to annual budgeting efforts.

Work closely with the Production Planner to forecast material needs and align purchasing with demand.

Develop strategic solutions to optimize material flow, inventory turns, and storage efficiency.

Ensure the Materials Department operates in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System.

Analyze and adjust shipment plans to ensure timely and cost-effective distribution of materials.

Continuously review departmental processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.

Partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues with defective or nonconforming materials and establish corrective actions.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience:

5–8 years of progressive materials management experience within electronic contract manufacturing, electronics, or related high-tech industries.

Skills and Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of materials processes, inventory control, and MRP best practices.

Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proven purchasing and negotiation abilities.

Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and cost control.

Proficiency with supply chain and inventory management systems.

Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and assembly drawings.

Familiarity with identifying electronic components.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause and corrective action.

Proficiency in Windows-based software (Excel, Word, ERP/MRP tools).

Strong leadership and team development skills; ability to motivate and guide a cross-functional team.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
